Children's Programs

Birth-to-Three

Description
The goal of the Birth-to-Three program is to train parents in facilitating the development of their children who demonstrate a developmental delay or are “at risk” of developing a delay.

Services
The program offers stimulation and therapy in the areas of gross motor, fine motor, speech and language, social, self-help, cognition, and sensory skills. Services include Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Speech Pathology, and Child Development Activities. The program operates on one- or two-day sessions. Classes are held 9:00-11:00am or 12:30-2:30pm. Home-based services can also be provided for medically fragile children.

Eligibility
Children from birth to three years of age, who demonstrate a developmental delay, or are “at risk” of developing a delay, are eligible for the Birth-to-Three program. The children are evaluated by the program’s Early Intervention Team.

Intake
An initial intake screening is usually completed by the Fairfield County Council Early Intervention Program. Following this screening, the parent may request an evaluation by the MRDD Intervention Team. If the evaluation indicates a need for services, an Individual Family Service Plan (ISP) will be developed.

Preschool

Description
The Early Childhood Center provides educational opportunities and services to children with special needs. Typically developed children are also enrolled. The program is in session four days per week, Monday through Thursday, from 9:00am-3:00pm.

Services
The preschool offers a curriculum based on developmentally appropriate practices. The program areas include socialization, motor skills, language, self-help, cognitive and readiness. Related services include: Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Speech Pathology, Adapted Physical Education, and Transportation. The children are provided with many opportunities for self-expression through creative activities. All teachers and teacher assistants are certified by the Ohio Department of Education.

Eligibility
Children between three and five years of age who reside in Fairfield County and have a documented disability are eligible for the program. Evaluations are completed by the child’s school district to determine the area of disability. There is no charge for the evaluation.

Intake
Initial intake activities are the responsibility of the child’s school district. The district may be contacted by the parent, a physician or any other referral source. When eligibility is established, the Early Childhood Center Preschool may be considered as a placement if it is the setting which would best meet the child’s needs.
